About "giants" and "dwarfs".

I've seen it happen before in an organization: a biased hiring manager rejects an applicant with an independently tested [quote] "competency profile for this position way above average" [unquote] based on a bullsh#t reason.
Despite indirect intervention, because here the organization would miss a golden opportunity, "the decision is final". And then, unfortunately, it's simply over.
"Why is this happening?" you may ask. "Everyone wants the organization to improve, right?"
Unfortunately, the latter is sometimes not the case. There are such 'decision makers' who have managed to manoeuvre themselves upwards mainly through "elbow work", often at the expense of others. And here it comes: these people value their self-behold status over the team interest (the organization), and are afraid of "competition" with competent people, because they do not dare to lose their position, because they relate their position in the organization to status, rather than what they actually provide for added value. In severe cases, this borders on narcissism and psychopathy.
There are roughly two different types of people. Those who prefer to surround themselves with "giants", where the interaction of knowledge and experience then occurs and apparent synergy effects and added value for the organization arise. In this organization, there is often an energetic, positive, relaxed vibe.
And there are also those who prefer to surround themselves with "midgets" so that they can exercise power, which flatters their sense of status. Needless to say, there are no synergy effects for the organization here. In fact, if this happens too often, the organization will even weaken due to a lack of "good people". In these organizations, there is often a negative culture of fear.
Q: But what should I do with the above story, if there is often (almost) nothing you can do to change it?
A: The fact that such types exist is a fact of life. However, learn to recognize the behaviour of these self-centred people as early as possible. They are often concerned with their appearance. Often they try to make you or others jump through all kinds of "hoops", trying to show power. However, the negative outcome is already certain in advance, especially if true talents and competencies are demonstrated by the "hoops" (because they are potential "giants").
As soon as unmasked: start ignoring this person in an integer way as soon as possible. And look for someone confident enough to want to surround him-/herself with "giants" instead of "dwarves."
